  • National Institutes of Health – predictive maintenance of motors and related equipment at the largest chiller plant in North America; quality control of new and repaired motors; cooling tower project quality assurance (motors and drives); low and medium voltage variable frequency drive quality assurance; motor repair specifications; specification review; cogen 25 MW repair and inspection QA and replacement 30MW replacement specification; implementation of partial discharge systems on 13.8kV machines; Thermal storage tank motor and drive QA inspections; general troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis; motion amplification studies; and, motor diagnostics and controls training classes. Projects performed direct or through AMS, Exelon, and Amatea.
  • Cargill – corporate consulting on motor systems and repair; forensics and RCFA of repetitive and larger scale electrical, switchgear, transformer, power quality, and motor system opportunities for multiple sites internationally.
  • Union Pacific – corporate forensics; quality assurance; reliability; repair standards – for DC traction machines.
  • West Fraser – Electrical Code of Practice working with the electrical team and facilitating development from scratch on transmission level systems to lighting; electrical reliability; and, electrical safety.
  • John Deere – continue training production engineers and assembly technicians on the hybrid 644 and 944 tractors; assisted in the development of production motors and generators including coordination with testing and manufacturing for the 644 and 944 hybrid tractors; design and life-cycle of insulation systems for electric machines.
  • BOCA – evaluation of installed elevator motors (AC/DC) throughout the USA including evaluation of DC motors and quality inspections fo new installations fo motors and drives usi including life-estimation and rec and recommendations.
  • Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power – RCFA and support findings of a newly manufactured motor in which the manufacturer had cut coils out fo the motor. consulting on reactor coolant pump new and repair stators and specifications.
  • Acciona – RCFA of wind generators; field studies on fault types detectable with ESA; general reliability consulting.

Expert Witness Projects

  • Southern Companies v. (repair shop) 2005/6 (Gulf Power v. GMS Pensacola, Florida, January, 2006): Arbitration in Florida.  Plaintiff Southern Companies, improper application of insulation system on exciter rotor causing unplanned outage.  Plaintiff Expert Witness.  Won in arbitration immediately following deposition showing the failure in action as presented by Penrose.
  • Two smaller companies (~2007) in Atlanta, GA expert witness for the plaintiff, ultrasound inspection for leaks in vehicles during manufacturing – patent case.  Case won based upon multiple experts.  .  The law firm was Thomas Kayden mid-year in 2007.
  • Dreisilker Electric (defense) v. manufacturer (plaintiff) (~2010).  Equipment failure due to poor maintenance of equipment.  Counter suit by Dreisilker for work performed.  Case won by defense, Counter-Suit won.  DuPage, Illinois.
  • Dreisilker Electric (plaintiff) v. manufacturer (defense) (2011).  Insurance claims on motor improperly repaired by a third party.  Dreisilker (led by Howard Penrose) identified defects.  Insurance authorized partial repair based upon inexperienced ‘expert.’  Defendant collected funds from insurance to pay Dreisilker.  Case won by plaintiff for full costs plus all expenses including legal.  DuPage, Illinois.
  • Dreisilker Electric (defense) v. IAP (plaintiff) (2013).  Case on behalf of General Motors – improper fan provided not matching drawings or sample.  Fan returned to manufacturer who attempted to collect full price.  Court case, data forgotten by owner for defense.  Expert testimony on both sides submitted in court.  Settled 50/50 split.  DuPage, Illinois.
  • Aurora Energy (plaintiff) v. Koffler motor repair (defense) (2016-17).  Hidden expert.  Generator rotor repair and insulation issues, including forensics of generator.  Penrose expert for the defense.  Identified a number of defects performed by third parties.  Case headed to court until Penrose identified as defense expert.  Settled post-arbitration/pre-court immediately after.  Settlement hidden.
  • Intellectual Ventures (plaintiff) v Honda, Toyota, Nidec and Mitsuba (defense) – International Trade Commission case related to hybrid vehicle motor designs. IV was claiming an existing patent for hard drives represented the machines developed for hybrid and electric vehicle systems (steering and compressors). There were additional defendants using a different expert (still in progress). Dismissed based upon the MotorDoc LLC expert witness report.
